Belmont Shelter Corp. administers the HUD Housing Choice Voucher Program on behalf of the Erie County PHA Consortium (42 communities) and the City of North Tonawanda Housing Agency. In addition to the standard Section 8 available to the general waiting list, we participate in four special Section 8 programs:
- · HOPE for Elderly Independence: A joint venture with Erie County Senior Services that combines rental assistance with supportive services to help frail elderly remain independent.
- · Veterans Administration Supportive Housing: A joint venture with the local VA hospital which provides rental assistance, counseling, case management, and medical/health services to veterans
- · Family Unification: A joint venture with the Erie County Social Services Child Protection Unit to provide rental assistance to families for whom the lack of adequate housing is a primary factor in the placement of the family's children in out-of-home care
- · Mainstream Housing Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities: Assists a segment of the population recognized by HUD's housing research as having some of the worst case housing needs.
In all, these programs assist over 4,000 low-income renters in the private housing market, with annual payments to property owners more than $14 million.
Belmont works in partnership with the City of North Tonawanda to implement their housing rehabilitation programs, and with the Town of Amherst and Town of Tonawanda to develop affordable single-family homes.
We manage affordable, multi-family complexes that we developed in Attica, Buffalo, Cambria, Grand Island, Lancaster, Wheatfield, and West Seneca. We also manage three complexes sponsored by the Elizabeth Pierce Olmstead M.D. Center for the Visually Impaired.
We are the administrators for a New York State DHCR HOME Program.
Belmont Shelter is a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency, and contracted to provide home ownership counseling on behalf of the Towns of Amherst, Cheektowaga, Hamburg, and Tonawanda, and the County of Erie.
