PORTER FARMS IS ...
A certified organic farm located in Elba, NY (near Batavia). Owned and farmed by Jack, Mike, and Steve Porter for over forty years; it has been certified organic since 1990. In 1996 we started our subscription service with just over 100 members.

PORTER FARMS COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA) PROJECT IS . . .
A group of people working with our local farm, becoming more involved with how their food is grown and distributed. We have created a new food delivery system; growing and distributing wholesome, fresh, and safe food in a socially and environmentally responsible fashion.

OUR PROJECT WORKS THIS WAY. . .
We search for new members and prepare for the upcoming season during the winter season. Usually our first harvest is in late June and runs for 23 weeks (into late November). Each Saturday produce is bagged for each member and picked up by a member in a distribution group and driven back to a neighborhood distribution site where the other members pick up their bag of produce. Most distribution groups are large enough so that individual members only have to drive to the farm a few times during the season. Such a close connection between the farmer and consumer is what makes our CSA project special.

AS A SHAREHOLDER, YOU GET. . .
About 25 varieties of organically grown vegetables over the growing season. Usually six to eight different varieties per week. Signing up for a full share, entitles you to an average of 10 - 12 pounds of produce per week. We grow such things as green beans, beets, broccoli, cabbage, cucumbers, melons, peppers, potatoes, summer and winter squash, tomatoes, spinach, onions, lettuce, kale, Swiss chard, peas, cauliflower, turnips, leeks, and more..

YOU ALSO RECEIVE. . .
.. An invitation for our summer and fall festivals which mix family fun with learning how your food is grown. We have hayrides, a petting zoo, walking tours of the farm, and we cap off the day with a potluck dinner.
.. A weekly newsletter filled with farm news, recipes using that weeks vegetables, and announcements on upcoming events.
