The Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky in December. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on December 18 when Mars comes within 35 million miles of earth. Rather, on this upcoming occasion, Mars will come closest to Earth on the evening of December 18th (at around 6:46 p.m. Eastern Standard Time).
